The Elementz: Bestial Instincts

Here's the first chapter of this book...

The Elementz
Bestial Instincts

By: GhostWriter

CHAPTER ONE

A black teen of about 16 or 17 ran along the back alleyways in the rainy pitch-blackness of the night. He was tall and wore dark black shades over his eyes, regardless of how dark of a night it already was. He wore his hair in long braids that reached his shoulders and were whipping behind him as he ran. On his back was a bulging backpack.
A light shone behind him, as three cops chased after him, two with a flashlight.
"Crap," the boy muttered under his breath, "kept going straight for too long…"
He went into a series of sharp turns to try and lose the cops. One of the cops with a flashlight tired out and fell too far behind.
"One down," muttered the boy.
"How many alley’s are there in this city?" huffed the cop without a flashlight.
As they continued, that same cop got lost in the maze of alleyways.
After the boy realized he couldn’t shake this last cop, he purposely led himself into a dead end.
"Well now boy," laughed the cop, "I’ve got you cornered. Just give up what you stole and give up."
The cop pulled out a pair of handcuffs and slowly walked toward the boy. He knew he had to be cautious, because rumor had it, this kid had unreal fighting talent and was known to use it when desperate.
"You think I didn’t know this was a dead end, officer?" asked the boy, dropping his backpack, "Why don’t you save the both of us a lot of time and put those handcuff on your own hands instead, okay?"
"Aren’t you a little too sure of yourself, boy?" said the cop, stopping where he was.
"I never am," said the boy, and then he launched himself forward.
The cop jumped back just in time to miss a kick to the head that more than likely would have knocked him out cold. The boy, not in the least worried about missing the first blow, went into a low spinning kick that connected with the back of the cop’s knees.
"What the," said the cop, falling to his knees.
The boy kept the move going into a roll that brought him behind the cop and then turned around and leapt forward into a tackle the struck him in the back.
"Oomph," the cop grunted as he hit the ground.
The boy picked up the handcuff that the cop had dropped as when he had been kicked.
"I told you to make this easy on yourself," said the boy, without a hint of being tired.
Without warning, the boy snapped his head around in time to see the figure leap out of the shadows. He ducked as the cop, whom he thought had gotten lost, went flying towards him. Reaching up in time, he grabbed the cop and slammed him onto the first.
"I should’ve seen that coming," muttered the boy, as he dragged both cops over towards a drain on the wall and cuffed them both around it so they wouldn’t be able to follow him, "but, oh well, it all worked out."
Then the boy picked up his backpack and took off running again. After about 10 minutes of nonstop running, he reached another dead end. The boy stepped up to a wall and tapped three times on a brick and then pulled on what looked like a normal fire escape ladder.
A nearby dumpster slid to the side and behind it was a hole in the wall. The boy entered through this hole and the dumpster resumed it’s former position in front of the hole.
The hole led into a long hallway, which the boy ran along. As he reached the end, it opened up to big place full of people. All of them were homeless.
"Blaz!" called a voice, "Blaz, over here! Hurry!"
The boy, Blaz, headed towards the voice. A young boy, of about 8 or 9, stood waving his hands so that Blaz would see him. When Blaz reached him, they both ran down some more halls. They stopped outside of a door.
"She’s waiting in here," said the young boy.
Blaz said nothing, but walked right in. Inside a woman was lying asleep in a bed, while a man kneeled beside her. Another woman, about 21 years old, stood in a corner behind the man and looked up as Blaz entered the room.
"Do you have it?" she asked, as the man now looked up at Blaz too.
"Please tell me you have it," the man said, his voice barely a whisper, "please tell me you can save my wife…"
Blaz looked between the two of them and walked to the woman in the corner. Upon reaching her, he took off his backpack and shoved it into her hands.
"There’s food in here along with the medicine," he said, turning and walking out the door, "Thought she might need the extra vitamins and minerals in the food."
As he closed the door, the young boy from before stared at him.
"Your mother’s going to be fine," Blaz said, before turning to leave down the long hallway.
He walked until he came to a dead end with only a hole in the ceiling that would require a ladder. Blaz began to leap of the sides of the wall, working his way up to the hole. He jumped through and landed on his feet in the room. Beside the hole was a rolled up rope ladder. The inside of this room was fairly simple. It consisted of a bed, an adjoining bathroom, a chair, and a TV. The only other thing in the room was the one thing that probably wouldn’t count as "simple". In a corner, on a desk, stood a very high-tech computer. Currently on the screen, there seemed to be a radar type program running. There was a map of the city and small red dots moving on and off of the screen.
Blaz walked over to the bed and lay on his back. He lay there for a long time, eyes open, but staring at nothing.
After a while, a voice called from the hole, "Let me up, Blaz!"
He sat up quickly. Once again, he had fallen asleep with his eyes open.
Getting out of bed, he walked to the hole and stood looking down. The woman, to whom he had given the backpack, stood at the bottom looking up at him.
"What do you want?" He asked, "Do you need me to go get something for someone?"
"No," she answered, "For once, can’t you think about yourself instead of others?"
"Lily, what are you talking about?" he replied.
"You’re always so concerned with the well-being of others, you never stop to think about yourself and your needs!" she said, "I mean, you literally starve yourself every time we run short on food, just so others can eat. You’ve been protecting these homeless people and even stealing food and medicine from the doctors who won’t give them it. You single handedly keep the cops from getting too close to this place."
"Yeah," he said, "So?"
"But you never say what’s wrong with you," she continued, "I mean, you always look so, depressed, but you never allow anyone to get to know you. You’re quiet, some times it’s as if you’re a mute. Will you just tell me what troubles you so much?"
Blaz sighed, "If you really want to know, Lily, then fine. I’m quiet because I have a weird feeling, that tells me I’m destined for something so big, yet I’m troubled because I know that it will end up causing me a great deal of pain. That’s why. I also spend so much time trying to remember my past that…"
There was a sudden loud series of beeps. Blaz whipped his head around to his computer. All at once, several of the red dots had begun to move in toward the center.
"No…" he gasped, "This can’t be right… they couldn’t have… unless… oh no…"
"What is it, Blaz?" asked Lily.
Blaz jumped down through the hole, front flipping to land on his feet, then ran back down the hall.
"Blaz, what is it?" she asked again, running to keep up.
"The cops have tricked me," he explained, never breaking stride, "They know exactly where we are and they knew I had them on a radar. They pretended to not be doing anything, when the entire time, they were moving in, surrounding us. They just got too close. I need you to get everyone to safety. I’ll hold the cops off."
"But what if you can’t?" she inquired, stopping at a hallway.
Blaz kept running straight ahead, but yelled over his shoulder, "After all the things I’ve stolen, you really don’t want to or need to know. Just get them out and trust me to do my job."
After Blaz was sure he was alone in the hallway, he thought to himself, No one’s around and this is as good a time as any…
Ever since as far back as he could remember, Blaz had had weird and amazing powers no one else had. Along with his amazing agility, stamina, and knowledge of a fighting style unknown to anyone else on the planet, he had a few more powers. He could, at any point in time, suddenly run at unheard of speeds. He once tested it and found out he could easily outrun a jet. But his last ability was his most amazing; he could conjure up flames at will. And not those small matchstick fires, but he knew that of he wanted to, he could cause an entire forest to burn to the ground in a matter of seconds. He could even use this fire with his fighting style. In fact, his fighting style seemed to be centered around his fire, but it could still be used without the fire. To him, this last ability seemed to explain his name, which was pronounce the same way as ‘blaze’, but spelled without the ‘e’ on the end.
He used his speed and suddenly, he was standing in the main entry room. The room, which had been full of people, was now empty. He then began to run in circles, checking all of the many secret entryways that all led to this room. As he went pass each one, he realized, they weren’t coming in just one way; they were coming in using all of the entrances.
Blaz stopped in the center of the room and stood, head hung, eyes closed, and waited.
It wasn’t long before a voice yelled out, "Hey you! Do not move!"
Blaz raised his head slightly and saw that they had surrounded him from the second floor and all had guns trained onto him.
He stood up slowly, hands raised, "Alright, you got me, but let the others go or the only thing you’ll leave here with will be scars and maybe some burn marks."
A few of the cops laughed. One, obviously the one in charge, called out, "Yeah kid, sure. Alright, Brava Team head down the west corridor. Gamma, you guys take the north. Alpha to the east, and Beta to the south. The rest, stay with me and let’s take in our little friend here…"
The remaining cops looked to where Blaz had been. He was gone.
"Find him!" yelled the commander.
"No need," came a voice over his shoulder, "I’m not hiding."
Blaz kicked the commander in the back, causing him to fall over the edge to the floor below. The two closest cops both ran towards him. At the last possible second, Blaz jumped backwards and grabbed the two officer’s heads, smashing them together.
He heard someone yell, "Open fire!" and ducked into a vacant hallway in time to dodge the bullets.
"Okay," he yelled back to them, "you like to play with fire?"
Blaz jumped out just as the guns stopped shooting, and blew fire in every direction he could. He heard the cops gasp, and then scream as the fire raced towards them.
In the confusion, Blaz took off down a hallway to catch up with one of the groups.
As he neared them, he maintained his speed and took all of them out before they knew what had happened. He stopped for a minute to catch his breath.
"Wow," he said to himself, "this is more tiring than I thought it’d be."
He soon took off to catch with another group. He used long-range fire attacks to chase them the wrong way and into a dead end. When they were trapped, he blew apart the roof, causing them to be stuck in the corner until someone came to free them.
He had reached the center again and was about to take off after another hallway when a voice rang out,
"Stop right there."
Blaz looked up. All the remaining officers stood in a ring around him on the second floor. He looked towards the voice. It was a police who held Lily beside him. Blaz reacted immediately and moved from the spot their guns had been trained on, shooting fire at them from his hands.
"Make one more move," spoke the cop, "and this nice young lady won’t see the light of day ever again."
Blaz saw the gun trained on her, saw the determination in the cop’s eyes, and knew that if he disappeared from the cop’s view using his speed, his finger would pull the trigger.
Lily looked at him, with a terrified expression on her face.
"What are you?" she whispered.
"Y-you’re not human," stuttered Lily.
"No, Lily, please don’t be afraid of me…" Blaz began.
"What the hell are you?!"
As she screamed the last part, Blaz felt funny, and he looked down at his body. It was fading away and he could already see through his own hands.
"What the hell…" he said.
"Hey!" yelled the cop, "What the hell are you doing?"
"Blaz!" screamed Lily, seeming no longer concerned with his weird powers.
"Lily!" screamed Blaz, as they got one last look of his terrified face before he vanished from their view.

CHAPTER TWO

A boy in a light blue hoodie stood leaning against a wall, chewing gum, in a white room that had no door or window. He had spiky jet-black hair and his eyes were a piercing light blue.
Also in the room were 5 other youths.
One was a very muscular boy with wild brown hair. He wore a green shirt and some jeans that had been roughly cut at the knees to make shorts. His eyes were hazel.
A girl with long blond hair floated slightly off the floor. She wore a grey tank top and a long white skirt. Her hair fell across her face and covered one her blue eyes.
An Asian boy sat on the floor. His dyed yellow hair was in a crazy spiky style. He wore a yellow tee and blue jeans. His yellow eyes watched as a spark of electricity danced between his fingers.
A girl with shoulder-length purple hair and purple eyes floated cross-legged in the air, with her head leaning on her hand and held a sort of bored expression on her face. She wore a purple tee shirt and black jeans.
A girl with long blue hair and blue eyes lay stretched out across the floor. She wore a white shirt with a picture of a little water droplet in the center of her chest. She wore slightly faded blue jeans.
“Lily!”
The electricity stopped jumping between the Asian’s hands as he turned his head to the center of the room. The blue haired girl sat up and looked. The girl with the purple hair turned her body to face the sound. The brown haired muscular kid turned and looked. The hovering girl landed on the ground, startled by the voice. The last kid looked up from the ground lazily.
Blaz appeared in the middle of the room. For a second, he thought he had passed out and died. Then he realized the room was entirely white and nothing was wrong with his eyes. Then he noticed the six pairs of staring eyes on him.
And you would be…?” asked the purple haired girl, as if Blaz should have said his name upon appearing.
“Um…” he stammered, “I’m, uh, Blaz.”
“Oh,” she replied, “Well, I’m Psy.”
“I’m Sparx,” announced the yellow haired Asian, the spark of electricity jumping between his fingers again.
“I’m Breeze,” said the blond haired girl, “Nice to meet you.”
“They call me Rocky,” said the muscular kid.
“I’m Aqua,” said the blue haired girl, lying back down.
“The name’s Avalanche,” said the teen with his back to a wall, “and let me guess, you must represent fire?”
“Huh?” said Blaz.
“Your power,” sighed Avalanche, “Each person here has a power. Our names are based on those powers. So yours must be fire.”
“Uh, yeah, it is…” said Blaz slowly, “Wait, yall have powers to?”
“Yes,” said Avalanche, “I’ll leave it up to you to guess them.”
“If you say ‘yall’,” said Sparx, “Then you must be from southern USA, right?”
“Uh… yeah,” replied Blaz, “Um, what exactly are we doing here?”
“Nothing,” said Avalanche, “and all of this waiting is annoying as hell…”
“Your wait is over!” boomed a voice throughout the room.
“What the?!” said Sparx.
“Huh?” said Psy.
“Who said that?” spoke Rocky.
“I did,” called the voice again.
“And who exactly are you?” asked Blaz.
“Why, I’m the one who called you all here together, who else would I be?”
A bright ball of light appeared from the center of the ceiling and floated downward.
“Finally,” muttered Avalanche.
“Well aren’t you the impatient one,” said the voice again.
“Yes,” agreed Avalanche, “I am, so can you please hurry this up? I was doing something very important back in California…”
“I’m sorry, but no matter how fast I go, you will not go back to California just yet,” responded the voice.
“Say what?” shouted Avalanche.
“Hush and let me explain further…”
The light grew brighter until it became blinding. When they looked back, a tall, slender, young woman stood in its place. She had long white hair and wore a long white dress.
“I am called Hope,” she said, “And I had to call all of the good Elementz together to help me save the past, present, and future of this planet.”
“Huh?” said Aqua.
“Let me explain it better,” said Hope, “I know for a fact that none of you can remember anything from your past that is from age 10 and down. This is because your memories were erased. You were all actually born on the same exact days in the same exact places you last remember waking up from on your 10th birthday.
“As your were born, you were each going to be put up for adoption. That is where the aliens from the galaxy Elementz stepped in. You were each teleported there and taught by different planets within the galaxy to use your special talents that had been infused in you. Though you were babies, you were extremely advanced in a secret martial arts solely based and created around your individual talents and learned more than most people do in their entire lives.
“You were sent back to the exact cities you had been born in, to help protect Earth, because another had come to control it. He and I had both been taken to the galaxy years before you all were even born. He represents Dark and his name is, oddly enough, Daemon. You were originally sent to help me stop him, but before I could meet up with each of you, he somehow managed to erase all knowledge of the galaxy, your training, and your mission. But somehow, all these years, you have been fighting him without even knowing it.”
The group sat there in silence as Hope paused for a moment,
“He and I have powers that negate each others effects. While he may be able to destroy things and cause bad luck to those around him at will, I can heal just about anything and give good luck. We both can both travel outside and through time. But he also has one other ability.
“He can split himself into up to 3 people. The clones are not as powerful as the original, and only the original can travel through time. He has placed himself in the past and future of earth. His original and most powerful self is in the present.
“I, on the other hand, have discovered my extra ability. I can take others through time with me. It also let’s me bring you all to this exact place at anytime I want. Although I can do this, it is extremely tiring, and I don’t think I can do it for a while after I send you to where I need to send you.”
“And where might that be?” asked Psy.
“To fight his weakest clone, in the past,” answered Hope, “Sadly, I must send you away without helping you learn to fight together. The most I can say is that Blaz is the only one who can lead you to victory against Daemon, so follow him well and you shall all prevail and be able to return to your own time.”
They all felt the familiar sense that they were disappearing and noticed each other fading out.
“Wait!” yelled Blaz, “Don’t I get a say in whether or not I want to lead?”
“Or better yet,” said Avalanche, “Don’t we?”
Hope smiled at them, it was the kind of smile that warmed your very soul and made you believe anything was possible and that everything in the world at that moment was right and perfect…
“No”
Suddenly, everything went from white, to black.

CHAPTER THREE

Aqua sat up and looked around. She was surrounded by trees and the sun was shining brightly around her. The people she had met earlier lay around her, apparently still unconscious. She decided to wait to let them wake up, but after awhile, it became apparent they weren’t waking up anytime soon.
Sighing, she walked to the nearest one, Psy, and formed a ball of water between her hands. She splashed some of the water on the purple haired girl, causing her to sit up suddenly, mumbling, “I’m awake, I’m awake…”
Aqua went to each one, splashing water on their faces to wake them. She found herself pausing at Blaz and admiring him. His face looked worn and tired, like he had been through a lot more than most kids his age should. She caught sight of Psy smirking at her, and she accidentally dumped the rest of the water over Blaz.
Blaz shot up, yelling, “Who’s there?”
The rest of them laughed at him, as he shook his head and realized what had happened.
“Oh shut up…” he muttered.
“Where are we?” asked Rocky, looking around.
“Hang on, why are we dressed like this?” inquired Sparx, looking down at his clothes.
The rest looked at themselves and noticed they were no longer in their normal clothes.
“Are these, medieval type clothes?” asked Breeze.
“I think so,” answered Rocky, “I’m guessing this is one of Hope’s powers; we’re in the past, so our clothes have to match.”
“Hey,” called Psy, pointing at something on the ground, “What’s this?”
The rest turned to see what she was pointing at. There was a small cube on the ground. There was one button on the top of the cube.
“Cool,” stated Sparx, “Wonder what it does though…”’
And before anyone could stop him, he ran forward and pushed the button.
“You idiot!” yelled Avalanche, “What if that’s a bomb?!”
The cube floated into the air and a light began to omit from the bottom. A figure appeared in the light.
“See,” snapped Sparx, “It’s not a bomb. No bomb does that, and I know a lot about technology…”
“Is that, Hope?” asked Breeze.
They looked at the figure, and sure enough, it was Hope.
“Hello kids,” spoke the image of Hope, “In case Avalanche wants to yell at me, don’t, this is only a hologram.”
Avalanche closed his open mouth as Sparx snickered.
“With that out of the way, this is a pre-recording I made to help you realize just how much power you have gained by going into the past.”
“As I know you all are aware, from as far back as you can remember, you’ve always had a sort of small crystal orb. You each carry them around sub-consciously. This is because during your time away from earth, you were trained that way. These crystals hold special powers that you need to unlock to defeat Daemon.”
Blaz raised a hand to the necklace around his neck and looked at the dull red orb on the end. He looked and saw some of the others reach for where ever they kept theirs. Rocky and Avalanche also wore necklaces. Aqua and Psy wore them as bracelets. Breeze had hers on a hair clip. Sparx reached into a pocket and pulled his out. It was the only one that had not been made into jewelry.
“I’d like those of you with their orbs placed in jewelry to take them off of it,” continued the hologram after a short pause, “You will be using them quite often and you’ll never be able to use them like they are now.”
After they had pulled them off, the hologram continued, as if it could see them, “Now hold them out, close your eyes, and direct a use of your power towards the orb.”
Avalanche, skeptical, looked to see if anyone else would do it first. He saw a flow of wind swirl around Breeze’s orb and noticed it glowing grey. Sparx had electricity all over his and it was glowing yellow. Even Blaz had fire flowing around his now bright red orb.
Avalanche sighed and closed his eyes. An icy mist floated around his orb, as it began to glow a silvery-blue.
“Awesome!” came Sparx’s voice suddenly.
Avalanche opened his eyes to see Sparx holding a long bow. It had electric yellow designs all over its dark brown wood, with a yellow orb right in the center of the wood. A quiver of arrows were on his back.
“How did that get there?” exclaimed Breeze.
“Probably the same way your whip got there,” replied Rocky, pointing to Breeze’s hand.
Sure enough, there was a long whip in her right hand and it had grey swirl designs on its hilt, along with a grey stone.
Each of them began to check out the weapons they now held.
Blaz held a huge sword in one arm. It had a silver blade that had a red line running up the middle, outlined in orange. The hilt was also red and orange and held his orb.
Rocky held a huge metal hammer in his hands. The shaft of the hammer was long and made of a sturdy looking wood. One side of the hammer was blunt and huge, the other pointed and sharp. His orb could be seen between these two parts.
Psy held a crossbow in her hand. Where it was made of wood, the wood seemed to have been dyed purple. Her orb was in the handle and she also had a pouch full of bolts for her crossbow.
Aqua held a long wooden staff in her hands. Though it was made of wood, it felt extremely durable, almost like it could be stronger than metal. A blue cloth was wrapped around the middle, and in between a section of the cloth, was embedded Aqua’s orb.
Avalanche held a flail in his hand. The strong, wooden handle was laced with light blue designs. His orb shone from its spot on the handle.
“This is nice,” breathed Avalanche, as he and the others looked at their weapons.
The hologram continued to talk after a few seconds,
“You can will these weapons to appear and disappear, making it almost impossible to separate you from your weapon, but you must be in reach of your gem.”
The kids looked at their weapons and tested out their ability to will them away. In bursts of water, electricity, and fire, Blaz, Sparx, and Aqua make their weapons vanish while the others watched, but kept a hold of theirs.
“You’ll need to master the powers your orbs give you and use them with your natural abilities to beat this version of Daemon,” continued, “To make sure he won’t call on his underlings, you’ll need to defeat them individually. There are 4 of them, and from where I positioned you…”
There was a far-away footfall sound coming from near-by and Sparx grabbed the cube, turning it off as he did.
“What was that for?” asked Breeze, “We may have needed to hear that!”
“Think about it, what if someone were to see this?” explained Sparx, “Imagine how much we’d screw up the timeline.”
“Come on,” whispered Blaz, who had been listening as the sound got closer, “We need to hide.”
With those words, the other 6 immediately leaped backwards, disappearing into the forest as Blaz leapt straight up into a tree above him. Where they’re footprints had been, moss, grass, roots, and even tree leaves fell into place, hiding them from view as Rocky used his powers to cover all traces of them.
A procession of knights on horses and soldiers on foot began to enter their view. There was a horse drawn carriage in the middle of the knights and soldiers. It was still pretty far away, but they could easily see it from their vantage point. Somehow, they had all ended up near where Blaz had landed on a thick branch. They each stood in a row, with him in the middle and Aqua and Avalanche somehow being on either side of him. The other two guys were beside Avalanche and the girls were beside Aqua. As Avalanche noticed this, he thought to himself, Great he really is the leader… even I just automatically jumped when he said to move and I even came to him.
Blaz spoke, breaking into Avalanche’s thoughts, “She said we need to defeat his 4 henchmen, right?”
“Yeah,” replied Avalanche, “But we couldn’t hear the rest, Sparkplug over there cut off the cube too early.”
“Hey!” protested Sparx.
“However he said it, he does have a point,” stated Aqua, “We don’t know if we’re near one of the henchmen. For all we know, we could be near someone Hope thinks can help us or give us information on what we’ll need to know.”
Blaz seemed to think for a few moments, then he said, “Avalanche, Aqua, you’re with me. I have an idea, but we need to be captured first.”
Avalanche looked at him out of the corner of his eye. His peripheral vision was extremely good and he could easily tell from the look on his face that Blaz wasn’t kidding.
“Oh no, you’re not really telling me to trust you enough to get myself captured in a time period where I could quite possibly meet my ancestors face-to-face and accidentally destroy my entire family?”
Blaz looked at him and blinked, “Yes I am, because we won’t be captives for long, no matter whether they’re helpful to us or not. My plan is for the others to follow us. They’ll watch over us, until we find out what we need, then they’ll come to us as we make our escape.”
“Give me one good reason why I should,” challenged Avalanche.
Blaz stared him in the eyes and whispered the one word that caused Avalanche to wince as he realized he’d been beaten.
“Home…”

Chapter Four

“I can’t believe you got me to do this…” muttered Avalanche, as he was roughly led amongst a group of knights and soldiers at spear point.
“Oh quit complaining,” said Aqua, “Maybe if you hadn’t put up that much of a fight, we wouldn’t have spears being shoved every which way.”
“He said to make it look convincing!” defended Avalanche.
“Yeah, but I didn’t say take out, like, 7 guys with swords, spears, and armor. And I definitely didn’t say do half of it with your bare hands once your flail was taken form you,” remarked Blaz.
“Okay, if it’ll make you two shut up, I’ll admit that I may have gone just a little bit overboard,” responded Avalanche, as he got poked with a spear for talking, “And you better watch it with that spear before I break off the point and shove it up your…”
“Quiet down before we have to fight again… you’re ruining everything…” interrupted Blaz, as he watched the soldier fall back from Avalanche with a fleeting look of fear on his face, “See, look at that, you’ve scared the poor boy…”
Avalanche noticed Blaz’s use of humor in this situation and tried to figure out how he was going to make this work. How he was planning to get answers while they were being incarcerated.
Soon the group came to a stop and began to set up camp for the night.
“You three!” barked one of the knights, as Blaz and the other two sat near a fire, “The commander would like a word with you!”
Blaz, Aqua, and Avalanche looked at each other and then stood up. As soldiers with spears began to point them towards the trio, Blaz spoke up,
“If you have someone back at home waiting for you, you’ll lower those spears. We don’t want to cause any more trouble, however, if you continue to poke at us, I’m sure my friend Mr. Avalanche would be more than willing to lower them for you. Forever.
As if on cue, Avalanche cracked his knuckles loudly and repeatedly, watching as the soldiers practically dropped their spears in fear.
However, the leader of this group wasn’t impressed in the least,
“You are prisoners and have no right to talk that way to me or my men!”
Blaz stared at him for a few moments, then, without ever looking from the man’s face, pointed at his feet and said,
“You’re standing too close to the fire…”
The soldier looked at his leg and saw the flames from the fire begin to creep towards his foot. Startled, he jumped backwards into his own men. With that, Blaz and the others walked towards the big horse drawn cart. The few soldiers that attempted to stop them backed down under the icy cold glare of Avalanche’s eyes.
Blaz pulled back the flap and stepped into the huge tent set up in front of the cart. Inside sat a man alone. He was a big looking guy, of at least 36. His long hair was grizzly and his beard looked like it was cut with a knife in a rushing stream. And considering where, or rather when, they were, that was likely.
“Well,” he spoke, “Seems Hope was right when she told me to take the forest on the way back home instead of the countryside route…”
“You know Hope?” blurted out Aqua, to which she got a sigh from Blaz and a shaking of the head from Avalanche.
“Great way to blow the cover Hothead over there was trying to keep…” muttered Avalanche.
Blushing with embarrassment, Aqua quietly said, “Oops?”
“Well,” spoke Blaz, “I’m gonna go ahead and give you the benefit of doubt and trust that you’re telling the truth…”
“What?” interrupted Avalanche, “Are you crazy?”
“Because,” continued Blaz, as if Avalanche had never spoken, “If you are lying, then so help me God, I will roast you alive and right before you die from 5th degree burns, I will light your insides on fire. Only then will I run you through with my sword.”
And as Avalanche, Aqua, and the man stared at Blaz with their jaws practically on the ground, Blaz’s sword appeared in his hands with a burst of flames.
After a few moments of watching Blaz’s burning blade, the man spoke,
“Well, that’s certainly one way to earn people’s trust… But at least this saves us time from gaining trust. My name is Hallor. I am a commander of one of the underlings of Daemon. He’s, by far, the weakest of the underlings and he’s called Namor. His soldiers are untrained momma’s boys while me and my handful of undercover rebels are the only good fighters he has and the only one’s with even a hint of a backbone. He’s so full of himself and his power to know that his continuing series of failures are because of us.”
“If your people are the only one’s with a backbone,” Blaz wondered aloud, “then that guy earlier that came for us…”
“Whose leg you set on fire, yes, he was one of mine,” replied Hallor, nodding.
“Oops…” said Blaz, in a voice that showed he wasn’t too concerned.
“Don’t worry about it…”
“I wasn’t.”
“Okay then, moving on,” continued Hallor, “However drunken off of his own power Namor may be, he has good reason. He has lightening fast reflexes and is extremely quick. However, if this gives you a chance to bring him down. He holds a tournament every now and then against the fastest within his land to see if anyone can even come close to him in certain areas. The only reason people compete is because of the prizes. He knows no one will ever win, so he goes all out and offers a lot of money and land to whoever can best him. As a matter of fact, we were returning to him with the rest of the prizes’ and the food for the feast afterwards for those who came closest to him. The feast gives the poor families a chance to send someone who can bring back food for the rest, because Namor gives them the leftovers.”
“Hmm…” murmured Blaz, “A tournament, eh? Anyone feeling up for some fun?”
“Are you ever serious?” asked Avalanche.
“I spent as much of my life as I can remember being serious, because people’s lives stood in the balance,” replied Blaz, “Trust me, if I begin to take things serious, it’s more than likely not a good thing because that means lives are in the balance. I feel like I deserve some time to play.”
“Well, I’m up for it,” said Aqua, “Sounds like it’d be fun!”
“I don’t mean to interrupt,” interrupted Hallor, “But aren’t there seven of you?”
“Yes, I guess they can come join us,” thought Blaz, “There’s no more need for them to stay hidden. When do we get to this tournament?”

Prologue

Three scientists were in as lab filled with computers. Two were standing, and one was sitting, because he was tied to a chair. One of the two standing, a male, wore a triumphant expression, while the other, a woman, seemed fretful and unsure.
"Hit the switch!" exclaimed the confident scientist to the uncertain one, "Hit the switch, and let the greatest experiment ever begin!"
"No!" cried the captive scientist, "You don’t know what you are doing!"
"Of course I do!" countered the confident scientist, "Now hush up and watch like a good little boy!"
"Please, I’ve change my mind, I don’t want to do this…" spoke the fretful scientist.
"You don’t have much of a choice, now," said the confident scientist as he pulled a gun on the tied scientist, "do you?"
"Don’t do it! The results will be 3 times worse than my death!" cried the tied up scientist.
"I… I can’t… I have to…" she struggled to make up her mind. Save the world, or the one she loved.
In the end, as all humans do, she let her heart win over what was right. Hanging her head down, she turned away to a machine, typed in a series of codes onto its keypad and caused a clear box to open up that contained a switch.
"Good… good…" crooned the scientist with the gun, "You’ve made a wise choice!"
"For the love of god, think about what you are about to do!" yelled the tied down scientist, struggling against his ropes, "this will go for the people closest to it but then it will fan out and go straight for one target age group! We haven’t worked out the kinks! Think about the children!"
"Screw the children!" yelled the gun-toting scientist, "Think of the power I will hold! I’ll have a team of the world’s best men to find a way to fix the brats when I take over the world!"
"You said it was for science!" screamed the female scientist, "You said it was going to be the greatest experiment ever!"
"Well," said the mad man, smirking, "I lied."
He reached out and flipped the switch. At first nothing happened. Then there was a low rumbling sound emitting from the machine. A bright white light followed soon, blinding all three people in the room.
"Hahahahahaha!" laughed the crazed scientist, as the light faded, "Yes! Yes! I can feel the power!"
"As can I!"
The tied scientist was standing with the female scientist in his arms.
"How did you get out?!" shouted the crazed scientist.
"Just like you, we know how to harness the power of this device. We did, in fact, build it, how would it look if we did not know how to work it?"
"No matter, I am so much more powerful, you will never be able to escape me now!"
"On the contraire, my dear deluded friend, we are now leaving."
And the man and the woman disappeared from view, leaving behind only a cloud of blue smoke.
"NOOO!" he shouted, slamming his fists to the ground, but then regaining his composure, "No matter, I’ll deal with them when the time comes, but for now, I must leave before police become alerted…"
"Yeah, too late for that one, buddy" came a voice behind him.
"Hmm?" he said turning around to see several cops behind him, "Well now, this may actually be a good thing…"
"Yea, yea, yea," Said a cop, "Put your hands up where we can see you and step away from those machines, they’re property of the government now."
The scientist smiled and began to raise his hand while slowly walking towards them, "You mean like this?"
"Yea, that’s it, nice an’ slow…"
Suddenly, the scientist stopped.
"You know," he said, grinning, "I don’t think I’d like being arrested!"
His hands suddenly crackled with energy and two huge machines on the sides of the police flew into the air.
"What in the blue blazes…" one cop began.
Then the scientist brought his hands together and the machines fell, crushing the cops.
The scientist looked at what he had done, continued to smile, rose into the air, and flew off into the night sky.
Behind him, one cop, who had hung in the back and therefore escaped the brunt of the attack, pulled out a small radio.
"The device was activated!" he gasped into it, "We were too late!"
Then the man dropped his head, never to raise it again.

Elsewhere
A tall black teen sat watching a TV show. The lights began to flicker and the TV screen began to grow intensely bright. The male suddenly heard the theme song of the main character repeat itself inside his head, steadily growing louder until it was a deafening roar.
"Ah!" he screamed, as he stood up, hands over his ears, only to collapse again onto the floor with the sound of "Danny Phantom!" echoing in his ears until everything was black and quiet.
A short Asian teen was flicking through TV channels, trying to find one to watch and stopped on a cartoon about a dragon. As he watched a little bit of it, the lights began to flicker and his screen glowed.
"Hey! What’s going on!"
Suddenly the theme song began to play in his head and the name of the main character as repeated over and over in his head, growing stronger by the second.
Without uttering a word, he fell out of his chair and to his knees. Clenching his teeth, trying to stand up, he fell forward onto the floor entirely, while the words "American Dragon!" continued to be screamed in his head until he passed out.

A white teenage girl sat on her stomach on her bed reading a comic book of everyone’s friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. As she reached the middle, the lights flickered and she turned to look at her lamp.
"I changed those lights this week…"
Suddenly her comic’s pages began to turn, as if being blown by a wind that wasn’t there. They stopped when on the front cover and the words began to brighten up intensely. The words "Spider-Man!" echoed in her mind until she passed out.

An Asian female teen was playing a game. As she struck the final blow on the game boss, her lights began to flicker and the controller began to glow in her hands.
"What in the…" she began, dropping the controller and standing up, only to fall to her knees clutching her head as the name of the main hero in her game screamed in her head.
"Sonic!"
A black male sat in front of a computer getting information and pictures of his favorite hero for his website. Suddenly his computer screen began to glow as he clicked on a close-up shot of his favorite hero.
"Whoa..."
Then he grabbed at his head as voices began to chant "Static!" over and over again in his head until he blacked out.
In an orphanage three boys were in an empty rec room, each doing something different. The smallest looking one was reading a comic book. Of the other two, obviously twins, one was watching a recorded TV episode and the other was playing with a small handheld toy.
"Man, if the basketball team knew you both are still obsessed with that stuff…" said the smaller one.
"Well, at least mines isn’t too bad, but that toy and the show itself dude, they would laugh you outta town…" said the boy looking at the TV.
"Good thing they’ll never find out, cause yall wouldn’t want me to…" started the third boy.
Suddenly the toy began to glow in his hand.
"Wha?!" he exclaimed.
"Wow" said his twin, as the TV began to glow also.
"Now this is weird…" said the smaller boy, as his comic began to glow in his hands.
Then all three boys began to react to the sudden pain in their heads as a voice screamed in each of their heads.
"Wolverine!"
"Dragon Ball Z!"
"Digimon!"
All over the vast town and even into the near countryside, lights shone out from random locations into the night. A pair of shadowy figures stood atop a tall hill overlooking the town.
"Look sister," said the taller of the two, "I think we’ve found where we belong…"
The other simply turned her hooded face towards her brother and smiled…

CHAPTER ONE

Michael woke up suddenly, his eyes jerking open. His head felt like someone had decided that banging a hammer on it was a good idea. He lay still, recalling the weird dream he had been having just before he had woken.
In it, he had fought along side his favorite cartoon hero Danny Phantom, and had had the same powers as Danny himself!
Ha, he thought to himself, too bad it was only a dream. Though the ghost rays were pretty cool…
At that very instant his hands began to glow a dull green.
He sat up immediately, all traces of his headache gone, and looked at his hands as they continued to glow.
“Whoa!” he said aloud, “No way is this happening! Maybe there was something more to that dream… maybe I can shoot them too…”
His hands immediately glowed brighter and he felt energy quickly gather in his hands.
Just before it shot from his hands, a small part of his brain screamed, INTANGIBLITY!!!
Instantly he felt a sort of weightless, empty feeling as his body became translucent and the plasma blast passed through his body, leaving a big mark on the wall behind him.
“Cool!” he exclaimed, “Now to turn back…”
His body returned to normal as he finished the sentence.
“I’ve got better control over these powers than Danny Phantom did when he first got them!” He said to himself, “Okay now, invisibility!”
He looked down at were his body would’ve been and instead saw a white light emitting from where his body was supposed to be.
“Hmm…” he thought aloud, “can other people see this?”
He walked over towards his bathroom to take a look into his mirror. As he looked into it, he saw nothing, not even the white light he had seen when looking directly at himself.
“Guess that answers that…”
He returned himself to normal and realized what time it was.
“Whoa!” he exclaimed, “I’ve still got school, regardless of how surreal all of this is!”
There was a low rumbling outside. He turned to look out his window and saw his bus drive pass his house.
“Oh great… isn’t this just LOVELY…” he muttered, “Although, this gives me a great chance to test the whole, ‘Going Ghost’ thing out…”
Soon he stood on top of his roof fully dressed for school with his backpack on.
“Okay,” he said, “I’m going ghost!”
A white light began to omit around his midriff and then split into two, one going up and the other going down. As they passed over his body, his attire changed into a black jumpsuit with white trim and a white letter “M” in the middle of his chest.
“Nice!” he said, giving himself the once over, “Not too bad!”
Then he leapt off the roof and zoomed off towards his school, eager to tell his friends this amazing discovery of his.

CHAPTER TWO

“Jake! Get up! Come on Jacob! Get up and help me calm down Lionel!” came a voice, cutting through the dark cloud hanging over Jacobs mind.
“Wha…” he said, waking up to see his twin brother, Jesse, standing over him, “What’s going on?”
“Leo had some weird dream and now he’s flipping out and I can’t calm him down! And come to think of it, my dream wasn’t too normal either…”
Disregarding Jesse, Jacob looked towards the smaller boy sitting against the wall banging his head against it as hard as he could, while tears streamed down his face.
“Leo, what the hell are you doing?!” Jake exclaimed, leaping to his feet, “Pull it together dude, your gonna hurt yourself!”
“That’s the thing, he’s been doing everything he can to hurt himself, but it doesn’t seem to effect him…” said Jesse, standing beside Jacob.
“Wait,” interrupted Jacob, “What’s he saying?”
They both listened closer to what the younger boy was saying.
“I killed me… and him… how could I… why do I have these… why would they stay…” Lionel muttered to himself, unaware that the two older twins stood watching him.
“What?” said Jacob.
“This just goes back to what I said earlier,” said Jesse, “He’s had a weird dream that wasn’t exactly a nightmare, and the funny thing is so have I. And judging by the look on your face, so have you.”
“Yeah, I was fighting with and against the DBZ characters, but that had to have just been a dream right?”
“DBZ, eh?” said Jesse, holding up a small handheld toy from the TV show, Digimon, “Mines involved this little baby. And if my hunch if correct, those lights we saw last night and these dreams are connected.”
“You’re about to do something really stupid and dumb that’s gonna somehow prove a point I don’t want to know about, aren’t you?” moaned Jacob.
“You bet I am,” replied Jesse, holding out the digivice out in front of him, “And hopefully it’ll work just the same way as in my dream…”
Suddenly his digivice began to glow from its small screen. Jesse never moved, but Jacob took a step back in surprise and even Lionel stopped his muttering and stared at Jesse.
Pressing a button on the side of the digivice, Jesse said, “Execute! Digi-weapon activate!”
His entire digivice glowed white in his hands and then it began to shift its form to become a long white staff with blue engravings.
“Whoa…” sighed Jacob, “Dude, that is so freaking awesome man…”
“That ain’t got nothing on the other things this baby can do!” said Jesse, whirling the staff around himself like a pro, “Funny thing is, in the Digimon TV show, the was never a ‘digi-weapon’ command. On ANY of the seasons. So I don’t know how this is involved, but what I do know is that I can digivolve just like in the 4th season.”
“I have no clue what you just said, but I’m starting to think that maybe my dream had something good come out of it, no matter how scary it was…”
The twins turned to see Lionel standing behind them, no longer crying, and with one hand in front of his face balled into a fist.
“What do you mean by that Leo?” asked Jacob.
“Watch my hand closely and learn…” replied Leo.
As both twins watched, waiting to see what power their younger brother had, they gasped in awe. Before their very eyes, three sharp metallic claws rose from the back of his hand, through the skin, between his knuckles.
“No way…” gasped Jesse.
“Wolverine?” breathed Jacob.
“Oh yeah, healing gene, animal-like senses, and all.” responded Lionel, “Wouldn’t surprise me if I could fight a little like him.”
“Good,” said Jacob, “Then you wouldn’t need us to protect you all the time!”
“Ouch,” winced Lionel, “That one hurt…”
“Well what about you then, Mr. Cheapshot?” asked Jesse, “What’d you get?”
“Well, since you asked, and since both of you seemed to have gotten something, I guess I can try and see if I have anything special... why don’t we get dressed for school first though, I think I’d better do this one outside…”
After they had gotten dressed and met outside in the cool early morning, Jesse and Lionel waited for Jacob to show his power.
Jacob held up a hand towards the sky, palm out. As he concentrated, a blue glowing ball of energy swirled in his hand.
“Whoa…” exclaimed the other two.
“Yeah,” agreed Jacob, also in awe, “I didn’t think this would really work…”
Concentrating more, the ball got bigger.
“Better shoot that before it gets too big…” warned Jesse.
“Yeah, your right,” said Jacob.
The ball shot forward into the sky, spiraling about 75 ft up and then exploding in a blue light.
“Can you fly?” asked Lionel.
“Let’s find out,” said Jacob, already concentrating on this.
He found it surprisingly easier than he thought, and he soon discovered how fast he could move and how quickly he could change his position in the air, as he zoomed around the field behind the orphanage.
“I’m tired of just watching,” stated Jesse, pulling out his digivice from his belt and holding it at arms length beside him.
It began to glow from the screen and then he pressed the button on the side again, but this time changed his words a little.
“Execute!” he cried, and as he did so, a band of multi-colored light appeared around his free hand. He bought the digivice up to this light until the top of it grazed this light. As he pulled it away, a trail of the band of light followed from his hand to his digivice. “Spirit Evolution!”
As Lionel watched, a huge white ball appeared around his brother, completely blocking him from view. Then the white globe began to crack and then, in one mighty burst, it shattered, the pieces vanishing as if they never existed.
Where Jesse once stood, instead stood a strange figure. He stood at about 10 and a half ft tall. He had two sets of white wings on his back. His hair was long and black and on his eyes he wore a gold sort of helmet/visor crossbreed that covered his eyes from view. His limbs were long and muscular and he wore a golden breastplate, as if from the middle ages. In one hand, he held the same staff that Jesse had had earlier, but this one had bladed edges that could be withdrawn and put back out at will. On the other arm was a sort of wrist blade. His legs had certain parts covered in golden armor, such as the knees and the calf muscles.
Both Jacob and Lionel just stared at this being.
“What are you looking at?” it asked, in a voice strangely closely related to Jesse’s, only deeper, “Haven’t yall seen a Digimon before?”
“No!” said Jacob, “What kind of dumb question is that?”
“Dude, no way!” exclaimed Lionel.
“Yeah,” stated Jesse, examining himself, “this is wicked, right?”
“No, no, no,” said Lionel, shaking his head, “screw that. That’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m saying ‘no way’ about is the fact that the two of you can fly, and I can’t! I swear if you two ever fly to school and make me ride the bus, I’ll so get my revenge…”
“Don’t worry,” laughed Jesse, “You can ride with me, come on or we’ll be late.”
“I’m going ahead, catch up if you can!” said Jacob, as he zoomed off into the sky.
“Hey! No fair!” shouted Lionel, as Jesse swooped by and picked him up.
“Don’t worry about it,” Jesse said, “That idiot went the wrong way.”

CHAPTER THREE

“Yeah, I know, I heard of it too!”
“I didn’t get it, but the two kids in the houses beside me did…”
“I don’t know how it happened!”
“A lot of them aren’t here today, they say that their not gonna need an education anymore so they’re gonna quit school!”
The hallways of Chastain High buzzed as more and more kids reportedly had woken up with powers that strangely resembled those of whatever form of entertainment they were watching, playing, or even reading.
“Wow,” said a short Asian boy with short spiky black hair, “Seems like we weren’t the only ones, Brad…”
“Yeah,” agreed the average height black boy with braided black hair that reached his shoulders, “Seems so…”
A girl with dirty blond hair walked up from behind them, “So I’m not the only one from our little group to wake up and feel, for lack of a better word, different?”
“Hey Leslie,” said the Asian, “You mean you’ve got some kind of power too?”
“Yeah Luke,” she responded, “I think it’s from Spider-Man.”
“What makes you think that?” asked Brad.
She raised her hand out in front of her and pulled back her middle and ring fingers. I white string-like substance shot out of it and hit the ceiling.
“THAT’S what makes me think that…” she said, “What about you two?”
“Well, I seem to have the powers of Static, you know, that hero from the TV show Static Shock?” said Brad, as he held up his hand and electricity jumped between his fingers.
“And I’m pretty sure this only happens on that Disney show, American Dragon…” began Luke.
“Are you sure you should do that here…” warned Brad, but a little too late.
“Dragon Up!” shouted Luke.
A red ring of what looked like fire circled around his feet and began to travel up his body, changing him as it went up. His feet began scaly and clawed and his shoes seemed to disappear. His body became red and scaly and black spikes appeared along his back and down his new tail, which was half as tall as Luke himself originally was. Luke now stood as a 7 and a half ft tall red dragon with black spike-like scales running along his spine.
“Oh yeah, who rocks?” he said, smiling a weird dragon smile that exposed his sharp teeth.
“Oh my god!”
“He’s one of them!”
“What’d he change into?”
“Is that from Digimon?”
“Who cares, is he gonna attack us?”
The students around them were staring at Luke, looked at the web Leslie had made, and looked at the electricity now crackling along Brad’s arm.
“Are ANY of them safe?”
“If we run, will they chase us?”
“But they’re our friends, they wouldn’t hurt us, would they?”
“Told you this might not have been the best place to do that Luke…” muttered Brad, “You just wanted to show off…”
“I didn’t think they’d take it this bad…” Luke said in defense, as he changed back to a normal human.
“How do we get out of here without them thinking we’re trying to attack them?” asked Leslie, looked at the scared students around them.
“Leave that to me,” Came a voice from what seemed like beside them.
Suddenly a tall black boy with shoulder-length white dreadlocks appeared beside them. He wore a black jumpsuit with white trim and a white M on the middle of his chest.
“Whoa,” said Brad, “Michael, is that you man?”
“The one and only…” he responded, looking at the now terrified group around them, “But now is not the time, so hold on to each other and I’ll get us out of here…”
“Wha?” began Luke, as both Brad and Leslie grabbed a part of him and then grabbed onto Michael’s shoulders.
Suddenly, they all felt a weightless feeling and felt themselves begin to sink lower.
“Are we going into the ground?” asked Brad.
“Yup,” responded Michael.
“Isn’t this called…” began Brad.
“Intangibility,” interrupted Michael, “Yes it is.”
“And isn’t that one of the powers of…”
“Danny Phantom, yeah, it is…”
“So you got Danny Phantoms powers?”
“Well aren’t you smart…” said Michael,” we should be safely away from people now…”
They began to rise and when they finally regained their normal feeling, they were in an empty hallway.
“So you can walk through things,” asked Luke, “What else can you do?”
“I can fly, turn invisible, change between my stronger ghost form and my normal human form, shoot ghost rays, and I can probably do that Ghostly Wail thingy the real Danny can do…”
“Wow,” said Leslie, “Well, we can…”
“I already know,” interrupted Michael, changing back to his normal self. “I was there the entire time.”
“You were?” said Luke.
“Yeah, I was gonna mess with your heads but then yall needed me, so I helped instead…”
“Hey,” said Brad, looking out the nearby door, “What’s that?”
A bluish streak zoomed across the field beside there school, heading towards them.
“I don’t know, but it’s headed straight for us…” said Leslie.
“Maybe we should get out of here,” stated Michael, backing away.
“Hang on a sec,” said Luke, “I think that’s Lin!”
The other three peered out at the figure moving towards them at an extremely fast speed.
“Oh snap, I think you’re right!” agreed Brad.
Sure enough, after dashing into the door, the figure in front of them was their friend Lin. She was an Asian girl of average height, with green eyes and she had long blue hair that reached her hips.
“What the heck did you do to your hair?” asked Leslie.
“And why are your eyes green now?” asked Luke.
“It might have to do with the fact that I now have the powers of Sonic the Hedgehog!” she laughed, “Seems like it’s affected my appearance too!”
“Well,” said Luke, “You aren’t the only one with something cool to show! Dragon Up!”

CHAPTER FOUR

“And in conclusion, there will be an assembly establishing what our fellow students are going through, with all of these weird things happening. I ask that those with these, powers, please refrain from using them. Thank you and have a good day at school”
Jesse and Jacob sat in their classroom, listening to the principal’s announcement.
“Oh that’s just not fair,” complained Jacob, “They don’t want us to have any fun!”
“That’s just because they’re jealous cause we can do all this cool stuff and they can’t!” agreed Jesse.
“The two of you have powers too?” inquired a student in front of them.
“Of course we do,” responded Jacob, “And mines can literally blow you away.”
“Can you show it?” asked another student?
“I’d get in trouble, and I can’t risk getting kicked off the basketball team and having them say I’m not going to be allowed to play football,” said Jacob.
“Well, what about you Jesse,” the student said, “Do you have a power?”
“Yeah, and it all is in here,” Jesse said, pulling out his digivice from his belt.
“Is that a toy?” the students snickered.
“This ‘toy’ could very likely help me kill you if I wanted to,” retorted Jesse, “Haven’t you ever seen Digimon?”
“HA!” the students laughed, “You watch Digimon! Isn’t that a kids show?”
Jesse’s digivice screen began to glow and Jesse moved his finger towards the side button, a band of light appearing on his left hand, “I’ll show you to laugh at me…”
“Cut it out dude,” muttered Jacob, “We can’t get banned from sports.”
“Fine, fine, I’ll stop,” sighed Jesse, the light fading away, “But they are so freaking lucky…”

Later that day…

The students shuffled into the auditorium and took their seats, waiting for the assembly to begin. This was one assembly that the students actually wanted to hear.
As the students quieted down, the principal walked onto the stage and began to speak,
“As many of you know, several of our students appear to have special, capabilities, that we normally wouldn’t have. Apparently there IS in fact an answer to all of this. And the government has decided it is best for you all to know what this is.”
“I shall now introduce two scientist who developed a technology and also have powers of their own, Dr. Samuel Johnson and Dr. Rachel Foster!”
Two people walked onto the stage. The male was a tall red headed white guy. He wore a black tee with blue jeans that actually sagged and seemed like he was about 27 years old.
The woman wore a pink shirt and wore blue jeans. She was also tall and she had long, wavy blond hair that went to the middle of her back. She also wore glasses.
In the crowd, Jesse, Jacob, and Lionel were sitting together.
“No way are those two scientist!” whispered Jacob, “I mean, come on, neither of them can be over 30 and the clothes…”
“Who cares dude,” Jesse whispered back, “That girl’s hot as hell…”
“Got that right…” muttered Lionel.
Back on stage, Dr. Johnson had begun to talk,
“Hello students, as you know, I am Dr. Johnson and this is my fellow scientist, Dr. Foster. We may not look it, but we are two of the most brilliant minds on earth.
“We have been developing a way to harness energy from a realm unknown to this world as a power source, but that is used everyday. The power of imagination.”
Several people began to laugh.
“Now I know how this may sound, but it turns out to be possible. And while you’re laughing, how else can you explain these powers that people seem to have?”
The laughing that had been heard began to fade out.
Dr. Foster now stepped up and began to talk,
“We were very close to perfecting it, when a fellow scientist working with us turned against us at forced us to turn on our machine. He had Dr. Johnson tied and at gunpoint, forcing me to begin the experiment.
“As those of you with these powers know, there was a white light that caused you to pass out, along with a name that repeated in your head. That name was the name of whatever fictional character you gained your power from.
“That white light was omitted from the machine we had been forced to activate. That ‘light’ was actually the only known way to tap into the realm of imagination. It was designed to tap into individual imagination. Therefore, whatever was currently on your mind at the time was what it tapped into and gave you that power. Sadly, since we had not completed it, it would work correctly only on those closest to the machine. After that, it worked only for one age group, yours.”
Dr. Johnson began to speak again,
“We tell this to your school because this area will have the most people affected. Granted the affects can spread as far as Asia…”
There were a few gasps in the audience.
“If anyone out there IS affected, it’ll only be a handful in the entire continent. Even in this entire state, with the exception of this area, there will not be anymore than about 50…”
In the audience, Luke whispered to Brad, “That’s still a lot, and that’s not including this area…”
Back on stage, Dr. Foster had once again stepped up,
“I, having gained a certain ability, know that several of you out there don’t believe a word of this, simply because you haven’t seen anyone do anything special. Well, now I shall call on various people, who I know have abilities, to the stage to demonstrate…”
She began to look around the crowd. Her eyes stopped to rest on girl with long green hair that several people knew had been brown the day before, “You! Jenna! I believe you have a pretty nice ability, why don’t you come on up an demonstrate it for your classmates?”
Jenna began to walk towards the stage when Dr. Foster stopped her by saying, “No, not that way sweetie, the other way.”
Jenna stood as if confused for a second, then a green light began to omit from her right hand. It spread to cover her body and lifted her up from the floor and into the air. She flew to the stage and landed next to Dr. Foster.
“Jenna here has the power of Green Lantern. A ring allows her to create and command a powerful energy in the form of light. The ring cannot be taken off, but also never becomes uncomfortable,” explained Dr. Foster, as she began to search the crowd again,
“There is a young man out among you all who gave himself the nickname that no one knows him by. It is Ollie. If you can, I’d like for you to get onto this stage without a single person in this auditorium seeing you. Anyone who spots him and exposes him, I will give $50 dollars to. Ollie, if you make it, will give you the money instead. Ready? Go!”
Everyone began to look around to try and find anyone moving towards the stage. After about half a minute, Dr. Foster spoke up again,
“Seems as if no one was able to catch him in time…”
Someone from the crowd yelled, “What are you talking about, there’s no one else on the stage but you!”
“Actually, look closer,” Dr. Foster responded, “Ollie, come on out,”
A boy with dark brown hair and black eyes stepped from out of the shadows of the back of the stage. The other kids from school recognized him as Oliver, a pretty quiet kid who loved to skateboard and usually bought a skateboard to school and rode it home.
“He was able to use his power to sneak out of his seat in the back of this room and up onto this stage without ever being seen once. He gained the sneakiness and cunning of the video game character Sly Cooper.”
After she gave Oliver the money she promised, she turned to the crowd again and began to look around,
“I believe we have a ghost out there somewhere, would you please come onto the stage, along with your arachnid friend, your dragon friend, your electric friend, and your speedy friend,”
For a second, Michael looked to see who was go up onto the stage next. Then he realized she had been talking to him. And had told him to bring up his friends.
As Michael stood up, the others followed suit.
“Oh come on, don’t walk up here if you don’t have to!” said Dr. Foster.
That was all that Luke needed.
“Dragon Up!” Luke yelled.
“Fine then,” said Michael, “I’m Going Ghost!”
The two of them flew up to the stage, as Leslie raised her hands a caused a web to come out, which stuck to the ceiling so she could swing up. Lin raced to the stage and beat them all.
“Oh come on,” sighed Brad, “how the heck did I end up having to walk?”
After Brad reached the stage, Dr. Foster said, “They haven’t seen your power yet. Why don’t you show them?”
Brad opened his arms, turning his hands to face the audience, palms out. Electricity could be seen charging all over his body. It crackled as it surged over him.
“With pleasure,” was all he said, with a smile.
After Brad’s little show, Dr. Foster looked through the crowd, saying, “One more group is out there, and this group has a pretty unique set of powers. Jesse, Jacob, and Lionel, I’m talking about the three of you.”
Jacob immediately rose out of his seat and flew up onto the stage.
Once there, he said, “I’ve been wanting to test just how powerful I am. This is as good a time as any…”
He balled his hands into fist and closed his eyes in concentration. Energy began to crackle in the air around him and could visibly be seen. His body began to grow yellow and his hair and clothes flowed as if he were standing on a huge fan.
“Aaarrrggghhhh…” he screamed, as if in great pain.
The principal and several teachers rushed forward to help him, but this was when Dr. Johnson revealed a power of his. His arms stretched out and held the teachers at bay.
“You’ll only get yourselves hurt,” He said above the crackling energy.
“But he’s hurt!” they protested.
Dr. Johnson just rolled his eyes, “Jeez, haven’t you ever watched Dragon Ball Z? He’s not hurt, he’s going Super Sayin!”
Sure enough, with one final roar, a bright light erupted from around Jacob. As it cleared away, they saw him floating slightly off the ground, hair suddenly blond, extremely thick, and spiky.
He looked down at his hands and said, “Cool! It works!”
Several people in the crowd gasped at this entire ordeal, as Lionel and Jesse walked onto the stage.
“I highly doubt I can out do that,” said Lionel.
“That loser punk has powers?” came an anonymous voice from the audience.
Lionel’s head snapped in the direction of the voice and stared out intensely.
“Yes I do,” he said, raising his hands up in front of his face, “And it’ll insure you never say that to my face ever again, or I’ll use these,” his metal claws sliced out from his skin, “to cut you down to size.”
The same voice uttered a, “whoa…” as others in the audience laughed and gasped.
“And what about you, Jesse,” said Dr. Foster, “I like your talent in particular, almost as much as I like my own powers.”
Jesse stood staring at the floor, “No way, they’ll laugh…”
“Don’t worry dude,” said Jacob, “You know it’s a cool power, they won’t laugh, at least, not when they see the final result.”
Jesse sighed, and pulled off the Digivice from his belt.
Everyone in the audience looked at it for a second, then laughed.
Jesse stood for a second, then stuck it out in front of him, “Execute! Digi-weapon, activate!”
His Digivice transformed into his staff weapon.
“That’s it?” came a laughing voice from the crowd.
“That’s a stupid power!”
“It doesn’t even help explain the toy!”
Jesse shook with fear as he lowered the weapon to his side and caused it to change back to normal.
“You wanna laugh?” he said in a whisper that could strangely be heard throughout the auditorium, “I’ll give you something to laugh about…”
He extended his right arm straight out to the side of him.
“Execute…”
A bright light emitted from his body, causing the people in the crowd to shield their eyes. As they looked back on the stage, Jesse was gone. In his place stood the Digimon.
At that moment, the Digimon spoke, and simply said, “In this form, I am no longer Jesse. I am Infinimon…”
“Oh that so figures,” said Luke, “the one time I’m taller than everyone else, he goes and grows taller than me…”

CHAPTER FIVE

“So let me get this straight,” said Ollie, in a small room with the two doctors and all the others that had been on stage, “You want us to use our powers to keep people who also have these powers from using them in bad ways?”
It was after the assembly and the doctors had taken the group into a room backstage.
“Yeah,” said Dr. Johnson, nodding his head, “pretty much.”
“Well alright then,” said Brad, “I’m in. Besides, I ain’t got nothing better to do anyways.”
“Count me in too,” said Luke.
“And if he’s in, then so am I,” agreed Lin.
“Michael, what do you think?” asked Leslie.
“Well, it’d be the right thing to do…” he thought aloud, “And I have a weird feeling that I have to do this, so why not? I’m in too.”
“Well, I don’t want to be left out, so I’ll join too,” said Leslie.
“What about you two, Ollie and Jenna?” asked Dr. Foster, “Will you two join as well?”
“Sure, why not?” they both agreed.
“Well I ain’t doing it,” announced Jacob.
“Me neither,” agreed his twin.
“Why the heck not?” asked Lionel, shocked by their answers.
“Because, one: I don’t like the idea of having someone else tell me how to use my powers,” began Jesse.
“And two: we still have our sports to think about,” finished Jacob.
“Look Lionel, you can join up with them if you want, but we’re outta here,” said Jesse, as he and his brother turned to walk out the door.
“Catch yall on the flip side,” called Jacob as the door swung shut behind them.
Lionel looked at the door, then back at the group, then back at the door.
“Sorry guys,” he said, turning to follow his brothers.
“Okay,” said Dr. Johnson, “Now that we know who’s on the team, time to tell you who among you we’ve decided will lead this group.”
“Say what?” exclaimed Jenna, “I’ve gotta take orders from someone I’ve never really known that well? I only talk to Oliver on a regular basis!”
“Just quiet down, dear,” said Dr. Foster, “We understand that you may not like that idea, but we know they are the best choice and since me and Sam can’t be here all the time, someone’s gotta be able to take charge.”
“So who is it?” asked Michael.
“Funny you should ask,” stated Dr. Johnson, “considering it’s you.”
Everyone turned to look at Michael.
“That’s gotta be a joke, right?” asked Michael, “I mean, how could I be the most logical choice?”
“Come now dear,” said Dr. Foster, “you know just as well as I do that it makes sense that we’ve picked you. In case you still want to deny it, yes, one of my powers is that I’m a psychic.”
“So we take orders from him?” said Ollie, “Wonderful. So what exactly are your roles in all of this then?”
“Why, we train you of course!” laughed Dr. Johnson, like the answer should’ve been obvious, “Dr. Foster can use her psychic ability to figure out what your current ability limit is, and if you have any hidden abilities, and I know more about superheroes and villains than almost anyone on the planet.”
“Right…” said Leslie, “Where exactly would we do all of this?”
“Here, these maps will tell you how to get there from here and on the back, how to get there from your house,” said Dr. Foster, as she handed out papers with each of the kid’s names on them.
“Also, wear these at all times,” said Dr. Johnson, as he handed out devices that looked similar to pagers.
“What are we gonna do with pagers?” asked Luke.
“They aren’t pagers,” said Dr. Johnson, grinning, “They’re much cooler! You can use them to communicate between each other and us. We can send you assignments and they’re also your passes from class. They can only work for the person who first activates them. We call them Communication Link-Ups, or CLU’s.”
“Cool,” breathed Ollie, as he and the others activated their CLU’s and put on the headsets that came with them.
“Hey kids!” came a female voice in their ear.
“Whoa!” yelped a startled Jenna, as soon as the voice was heard.
“Who’s that?” asked Michael to the two scientist.
“That would be Lori,” replied Dr. Johnson, “She and Chester actually created the CLU’s, among other things.”
“We had been working in a lab very close to the room where the machine had been activated,” said a voice in their ears, this time male, “We were both affected. I gained the powers of Gear from the T.V. show, Static Shock.”
“While I,” came Lori’s voice, “Gained both the powers of Jubilee and Forge from the X-men. Basically, we’re the tech geeks that work with you.”
“And speaking of tech, I have something for the two of you that would normally have trouble keeping up with the others. That means you, Ollie and Brad.”
Dr. Johnson reached behind a table and pulled out two skateboards. Both had no wheels; one was made with lots of metal and one had very tiny rockets and foot restraints.
“Ollie,” came Chester’s voice again, “with your increased agility and dexterity, it’ll be easy for you to control the rocket hoverboard. Just activate it with the handprint touchpad on the underside of the board and it’ll link with your mind so that it’s easier to control.”
“As for you, Brad,” began Lori.
“No need to explain,” said Brad, raising a hand toward the metal board, “I know exactly what to do with this…”
A blast of electricity shot from his hand and connected with the board, causing it to rise into the air and hover there. Brad jumped and the board zoomed under his feet so that he landed on it. There was a flash of electricity as his feet were statically clung to the board.
“Excellent,” said Lori.
“Well, now that you know what we want you to do, we’re all done here,” said Dr. Foster.
“Although,” said Dr. Johnson, “I’d advise you clear up lots of free time after school.”
“Why?” asked Ollie, doing a kickflip on his hoverboard as it floated in the air next to Brad, who did a heelflip at the same time.
“You’re all going to have to patrol the surrounding area for anyone who was affected and is using their powers for bad,” replied Dr. Johnson.
“Are you serious?” asked Luke, “Please tell me that you’re joking.”
“Oh no,” said Dr. Foster, “You’re going to be patrolling the area everyday. And you will also practice with us almost everyday.”
“Aw man…” muttered Brad.
“Speaking of patrols,” said Chester, “We’ve got reports of people all over town abusing their powers.”
“Looks like you kids get a day off of school,” said Lori, “You’ve got to go handle this. We’ll tell you where to head. Michael, you decide who goes where.”
“Oh joy…” sighed Michael, “Okay, give me the places and what powers the person or people attacking it have.”
